How do you use Trend in FIll/Series?

Online help really does contain information about this sort of thing
You should make it a habit to start there, read what it has, then pos
questions.

When you check Trend, you have only two choices for Type: Linear an
Growth. Linear assumes the existing nonblank cells form a linea
progression, meaning that the average difference between existin
nonblank cells should be used as the additive step value between cell
in the resulting filled series. Growth assumes the average rati
between existing nonblank cells should be used as the multiplier valu
between cells in the resulting series.

If you select A1:A8, enter 2 in A1 and 4 in A2, then Edit > Fill
Series, Trend, Linear, the result will be

2
4
6 = 4 + 2
8 = 6 + 2, etc.

On the other hand, if you select A1:A8, enter 2 in A1 and 4 in A2, the
Edit > Fill > Series, Trend, Growth, the result will be

2
4
8 = 4 * 2
16 = 8 * 2, etc.
