Hi,
that behaviour is perfectly normal; setting an account as the default
account simply means that if you compose a new e-mail message, it will
automatically be sent through the account you've just specified. In other
words, even though you can only have one default account, the other,
non-default accounts still remain active, and Entourage will continue to
receive messages through them.
What kind of account (POP. IMAP, HTML or Exchange) is this old account
anyway? If it's a POP account, you can safely delete the old account from
the Tools>Accounts window, as the messages are stored on your hard disk
anyway. If it is not a POP account, create a new local folder in Entourage,
drag your e-mails from that account into that local folder (this will create
local copies of these messages), and you can then delete the account.
Alternatively, you can still keep the old account around for a while and
simply exclude it in your Entourage schedules (Tools>Schedules). If
anything's unclear, post back!
...even though I have set up my new account to be the default one. I
have considered deleting the synchorization settings for the old
account - but also don't want to lose all the messages that it has as I
still need access to them for a while (accessing them via webmail is
not a problem, if needed). Can anyone help me out?
