Setting for 'download pictures'

Hello all-

I've been searching extensively to find this option in the menus, but no
luck. Hopefully someone can help!

Whenever I receive an email with extensive external graphics (usually from a
company - Netflix, Gamespot, Best Buy etc), Entourage 2004 Mac OSX does not
download the pictures. Instead, it places a 'download pictures' button on
top of the message.

That's fine, but is there a way to set Entourage so it will download the
pictures automatically without me having to click download pictures?

I don¹t think you can do it globally, although I can easily be wrong about
that.

My own preference is not to allow unknown correspondents to send me graphics
­ since they can be used to verify my email address and send back
information I don¹t want them to have.

So I like the default in Entourage.

What I do is simply add to my address book (with no need to fill in any of
the fields manually) any sender from whom I want to receive pictures
normally.

Works great, and I think you will find that there are not all that many of
them you do not already have in your address book.

The only way of which I'm aware is to add the e-mail addresses of those
companies to your Address Book. You need to make sure the box next to
"Automatically download pictures from my Address Book contacts" under
"Security" in "Preferences" is checked for this to work.

Or are you looking for a way to do it without having to add the addresses to
you Address Book?

Hi Eric.
Entourage won't display pictures in HTML e-mails since loading them can let
spammers know that your account is active and that you check your inbox
regularly. While this approach makes sense, it is certainly annoying that
Entourage does the same for e-mails you actually want to receive. As it has
been pointed out by the other posters, one way is to add a person whose
e-mails you want to see immediately to your address book. However, it seems
kind of unusual to add for instance Best Buy's newsletter e-mail address to
your address book. Another solution is to go to Tools>Junk E-mail
Protection, then to the tab section "Safe Domains". You'll find an empty
field where you can enter domains you think are safe. Do this by adding the
bit behind the "@" symbol in the e-mail addresses to the Safe Domains list.
Entourage will automatically display the HTML content of e-mails that are in
your safe domain. If you really want to display every single HTML e-mail you
receive, add ".com", ".net" and ".org" to the safe domains (without the
quotation marks). Since every e-mail address ends in one of those suffixes,
they will all be displayed. Do this at your own risk, however. Personally,
I've found working with "Safe Domains" to be more than sufficient.
