Sharing Entourage between two computers

Evan

Hi,

I searched through past group archives and saw the last post relating
to this was 2 years ago, so I didn't know if something had changed
since then. What I'm trying to do is access Entourage's inbox on my
home computer remotely from my laptop; basically, I'm trying to share
Entourage without creating separate mail files on each computer and
thereby leaving all the mail files on my desktop computer while I
access them remotely from my laptop. I'm checking out Systeris Remote
but I wasn't sure if anyone knew of a way to do this within Entourage.
Can I "tell" the copy of Entourage on my laptop to write all its data
(sent mail, drafts, etc) to the files residing on my home computer?

Thanks,
Evan

It might be easiest to see if you can switch to an IMAP account. With an
IMAP account, you access mail from the server, so you can always access your
server contents from any location without needing to synchronize.

Otherwise, see this:

Just copy the Microsoft User Data folder from one machine to the other:
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/
to
~/Documents/

Note that this only works if both machines are running the same version of
Entourage. Also, please remember that this will delete all existing
Entourage data on the other machine, so this method is best if you can
synchronize each time you switch machines.

Another option is Paul Berkowitz's "Export-Import Entourage" script set,
which allows synchronization.

I bought the student version in hopes that I could access my Entourage
information from either computer on the network. I tried making an alias to
the Microsoft documents folder on one computer. This used to work on v.X
version (but I could only use one computer's copy of the program due to
licensing retrictions). In 2004 it errors out and doesn't load (actually crash-
quits the program).

Any ideas?

Mickey, do you know how I would go about switching to an IMAP acct? I
currently have a POP one. Also, someone suggested using iDisk to
store your Entourage mail data and then whatever computer you wanted
to could access and share it....has anyone had any luck with this?

Thanks,
Evan

Some mail providers allow you to access your mail via IMAP. I know, for
instance, that .Mac does. If your provider doesn't offer IMAP access, it
won't be an option unless you are willing to change providers.

Regarding the iDisk idea, it might work if you were to create aliases to the
iDisk's identity folder on each machine. However, it wouldn't really be
sharing, as only one machine would be able to access it at a time.

I think that if Evan has an iDisk, then he must have .Mac, no? So on his
mac.com email address he can switch to IMAP. I don't think he can do so on
the yahoo email address he was writing from here, however.
