I was having problems with an identity on a G4 and accessing it with my
iBook. As always, in the tradition of bloated software at Microsoft,
and the needle in a haystack approach to finding a solution, I finally
stumbled on the answer...thought I'd share.
First, in the System settings, under accounts there is a little menu
item at the top which is a list of startup items. If there is a
Microsoft Daemon in there delete that bad boy and it will create a new
one. Then, if you cannot, say, remove a mounted network drive from
your desktop because you were accessing the identity from a remote mac,
you can launch the Microsoft Notifications app which you can search
for...it's in different spots depending on which version. Just go to
the top left menu and select "Turn off notifications" and it will
release the drive so it can be unmounted.
All these things were causing my email on the iBook to be unable to
read the identity on the G4. Now that I deleted the startup daemon
(demon really) and selected the turn off notifications deal it's fixed.
But honestly it's been a week trying to find it. There were no easy
roads that led there. Thanks to those on the list here that helped
along the way.
