sharing identities between two macs

Thought I had it figured out, but I keep getting an error that i cannot
access my data, and to rebuld the database...which I did. I basically
have an alias of the Microsoft User Data folder on my iBook which looks
at a desktop G4. It was working great for a couple weeks. I didn't
update software or anything. The only thing I haven't tried is to
reinstall Office. It is office 2000 by the way, not 2004.

I have created new identities, etc, but now I just get an access denied
when the iBook tries to "see" the G4 database files. My databae file
is about 500 megs. Could the size of the file have any bearing on
remote access?

Any other ideas? Should I upgrade to 2004?
Anyone with similar problems?

Well, I tried a few more things, like copying the identity files to a
new identity folder. I did delete a bunch of old emails and rebuilt
the database...again.

Nada....still get an access denied on the iBook when I try to access
the G4 identity.

Oh, and I downloaded the latest update for Office X and finally I
ordered the 2004 Office upgrade from Amazon!

Do you use both computers to acess the same identity? Even at different
times?

It is almost certainly caused by the database daemon on one computer keeping
the file open so the other cannot access it.

You will need to turn off notifications and quit all office apps on one
machine before the other machine can access the data.

All Office apps are closed on the G4. But you are right, it is
certainly the database files on the G4 that are holding things up...and
it behaves like the database is either write protected, but it's not,
or it is opn or being used. If All Office apps are closed on the G4,
what do you mean by "turn off notifications"? Is that a system thing
or office thing?

Thanks for sticking with me on this!

Office. Within Entourage you can go to the Entourage menu and select "Turn
Off Office Notifications". Or (if you've already quit Entourage, for
example), if any reminders are showing, click the badge in the Dock which is
displaying the number of reminders - that's the Office Notifications
application - and Quit it.
