Sharing Requirements

I have a client who would like to share Project between 4 or 5 users.
Because of the cost involved, first can I share project files without the
project sever? Is there a limitation if you can? Will only one user be able
to open the project at once?

If I need a server do I need a full blown SQL server with sharepoint services?

Thanks for the help

Hi,

In Project, only one person can have a file open read/write. Subsequent
people get read only until the first person closes the file. With Project
Server, Project Professional still does all the scheduling so same again,
only first person with a file open can read/write.

With Project server, for a small number of users you can use the free
limited SQL Server, but it doesn't have Analysis server, so you are limited
in Project Server's reporting abilities.

So Project behaves much the same as Excel, but without the newer version's
abilities for multi-user access.

One license for one PC so several people can share Project on the one PC.

If you use the Project Publisher for Microsoft Office Project utility you can
Publish and update Microsoft Project tasks, project and resource information
using SharePoint. That means team members can update their information at
the same time using SharePoint and then the Project Manager can review and
update their plan directly from SharePoint.

They have a free 30 trial at http://www.projectpublisher.com
