Shifting Ruler in Word 2002

Just upgraded from Word 2000 to 2002. When I view a
document in page layout mode at page width the display is
odd. The ruler shows a total of 8.5 inches, the correct
page width, but the white space that represents the page
extends well beyond the ruler to the right, buth about
another 1 to 1.5 inches.

I checked the page setup and it is on letter (8.5 x 11)
portrait.

Never had this problem with 2000. This is a first. Any
suggestions?
