Want to filter data columnwise
i.e from Column A1

With Rdgs.

You can't filter rows. You can transpose your worksheet usin
pastespecial to switch rows and columns. There is no problems doin
this with 2007 but witth 2003 you are limited to 256 columns. so i
your original worksheet has less than 256 row with 2003 you can tranpos
the sheett, otherwise, you can't.

Pivot Tables can be viewed as a horizontal filter. They are easy to
set up - see the help.
