signature being inserted in the wrong place

I have several different signatures that I insert when necessary into my
e-mail messages. Until today, they worked fine. I left the cursor at the end
of the last line, selected the signature, and it inserted the signature
below, consisting of a hard return followed by my signature text.

However, the signatures are now acting oddly. When I select the signature to
insert, rather than flowing down the page as it did before, it now inserts
itself ABOVE the final line of text.

I did not make any changes to the signatures or to the Entourage preferences
between when the signatures were working properly and when they went all
wonky.

System specs:
Mac OS 10.3.4
MS Office 2004
