Size of identity folder

R

Rolf Liland

As my identity folder is up to 2.6 GB I decided to purge it of all large and
unused files. I would guess I thrashed or stored elsewhere up to 1 GB of
mails with large attachments. The "Deleted Items" folder was emptied too.
But when checking again, the identity folder is still 2.6 GB.
Any hints on why, and how to succeed in reducing this?
Best regards, Rolf Liland

Deleting stuff in this way doesn't actually shrink the size of the database.
In line with many other database type applications, entourage merely marks
the blocks previously occupied by the data you deleted as 'unused'. These
'holes' will fill up again with new mail and stuff as it gets added.

If you really need to shrink the database size, you can do this with a
typical rebuild (compact). Hold down the option key when starting up
entourage until you see the rebuild dialog, and choose the first item in the
list.
