Slide image dissapears on Notes pages

We recently upgraded to XP and for some reason all of the presentations that
we open from Powerpoint 97 in Notes View lose the slide image. I have to
reapply the notes master layout to each page. Unfortunately, when we e-mail
it the same thing happens again. Any suggestions.
