Slimming down database

How can I slim down my email database for backup? I have removed all
attachments and thrown out junk mail, and the size of the database

Allow me to clarify that in Entourage 2004, you would press the "Compact"
button in the Database Utility. In the earlier versions, you would choose a
"Typical Rebuild" in the Rebuild dialog box.

You need to compact your database in order for it to "actually" delete the
delete (or flagged for deletion) items...

I know it's not so intuative... think of it as a second step after you've
emptied the trash once you need to empty it again!
