on a job today, the victim was suffering from extremely slow behavior
in entourage (OS 10.2.8 - iMac white 800- 768 ram)
there are 6600 contacts and switching from email or address view to
calendar takes about 30 seconds. this was not the case before some
elective office updates were done about a month ago.
did a rebuild with no improvement. he couldn't put his paws on the
office installer to go that route.
i tried pitching out individually about every resource in the
user/lib/prefs folder relating to office. the only thing that worked
was removing the entire Microsoft folder, which gave a beautiful new
identity showing no data.
i did individually pitch a resource called something like "Carbon reg"
that had been modified about the time of the updates. entourage then
took about 40 seconds to launch, but the original problem was largely
cured.
i left him with the long launch time and relatively quick switching
within the app.
i wonder if 6600 contacts are too many??
