Slow redraw/refresh when deleting bullets XP Pro/ppt2000

Pretty much the title is my problem: if I delete a bullet, and lines have to shift up, it's sloooooooow... also, if I place anything slightly off the slide image area, the refresh/redraw is painfully slow too.
