Slow, Slow, Slower

OS10.3.4, 512memory and Word 2004

After the upgrade everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Entourage is
very, very slow now however. The hesitation is so long that I've
started using the mail in Safari. The other programs in word are
working fine, just Entourage. I've done the compacting of the data in
the data base, reinstalled just entourage. I did find that somehow I
had garnered a couple of new Identiies, dumped those and looked in the
hard drive to see what was generating the identies. Found some more
Word Products from the two previous Word Programs. Is there an
uninstaller that can be used? I feel that its trying to open 3
programs of Entourage at the same time. Is it to late to go back into
the installer and use the uninstaller?

Run the 'remove office' utlitiy on the Office 2004 CD (also in the Office
installed files: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove
Office/Remove Office). This will offer you a choice of which version's
remnants to remove.

Just a follow up. Removed Office 2004 and 2001 and then reinstalled
Office 2004. its now running but still a little slow, the others Work
etc. are fine, still couldn't get mail. I had imported all of my
setting and for lack of another idea went through them and found that
although the setting had been imported I had double of everything and
my password was missing. Apparently pass words don't get sent to the
new program. Deleted the extra set and that sped it up a bit and got
a lot of email. Used to be this would be the time to throw away the
pref.'s but a little afraid to try. Got any ideas? Thanks for the
info on where the un-installer was located.

Thanks for the info. Uninstalled 2004 and did 2001 while I was at it.
Seems to help but its still slow, are there pref.'s that could be
dumped like in 2001, what could be causing this? Found that when I
reinstalled, I got double everything..that couldn't help. Is there a
script that take care of double addresses? I've seen one somewhere.
Thanks again for the info. Ron

What specifically is going slow?

Passwords aren't stored in entourage, they are stored in the system
keychain. The new version of entourage is recognised as a different app by
the keychain, so it doesn't automatically have access to the stored
passwords from the previous version.

Having the actual program come up is time consuming. Two weeks ago it
was virtually instantaneous, now it less than adequate. Once up
clicking on mail in another wait. Its like its downloading 5000
pieces of mail. Sure that I have the servers checked to dump the mail
every 3 days but will check again.
I'm sure that I've checked something wrong, something simple but for
the life of me can't figure out what it might be. Wish there was a
list. My old "office for 2001" is no help of course. Ron
