Slow Startup

Has one else noticed that it takes Entourage a while to start up and also
the other Office applications. I ran a comparision against Mac¹s Mail and
Mail beat it hands down. Is there a setting I can adjust so at least
Entourage will load faster?

What version of Entourage and what OS are you using? Often when you see slow
startup, it¹s related to fonts loading.

I¹m using Entourage v12.0 and I¹m running on Leopard 10.5.2. Is there
anything I can do to speed up the startup? Disable fonts that aren¹t being
used maybe?

How much RAM do you have? This could be a factor too. Older machines that
worked OK under Tiger will now be taxed under Leopard and new applications
like Office 2008 if RAM is not sufficient. I recommend 2 GB for PPC and 4 GB
for Intel Macs.

Some basics that might help:

Office 2008 Font Install:

Office 2008 uses a different method for fonts and many fonts are new
versions. Office 2008 will install fonts to the /Library/Fonts/Microsoft
folder. By being at the root, then all users on the machine have access to
them and you don't get Office 2008 putting multiple copies on the machine
for each user.

The installer will scour /Library/Fonts/ and ~/Library/Fonts/ for fonts with
the same name and move them to /Library/Disabled Fonts/ or
~/Library/Disabled Fonts/ depending on where they were found.
