SMTP Auth over SSL - again

P

Peter Weil

I've seen a few messages in the archive about problems with SMTP Auth and
Entourage. Can anyone say for sure whether Entourage X supports SMTP Auth
over SSL? I don't think it can. Our campus mail server requires SMTP Auth
over SSL for SMTP connections from outside the campus IP space. Just about
*every other client* is able to do this except Entourage (and Outlook
Express for Mac), even though the SMTP options in the accounts dialog
suggests that it can. It just returns an error.

I've applied all of the updates, and they don't help (one wonder what these
updates are actually for, since they haven't seemed to add much in the way
of improvements in the past couple of years).

Why doesn't Microsoft ever fix things like this? To me, it just makes
Entourage a crippled email client.

It's a known bug in Entourage X. Sorry.
