SMTP authentication in Outlook 97

Hello, in order to stop mail relying through our mail
server, we need to enable SMTP authentication on server
side and on clients. I could not find such option in
Outlook 97 (it is available in Outlook XP and possible
other versions). Could someone please let me know if
there is any patch/hotfix etc. available? I downloaded
and installed Q197869,

It is not available in Outlook 97 because the Internet standards to do SMTP
authentication were not developed until after it shipped. You'll need to
upgrade Outlook to get this functionality.
