smtp issues, dns resolving

Lucian

Hi all,

I have an Exchange 2003 server running. One Mac user
using Entourage can't send email using smtp.mydomain.com.
But when I hard code the ip, it works. Is something wrong
with OS X, Entourage, DHCP, DNS, and Exchange?

Thanks,
Lucian

In Entourage 2004 your user doesn't need to use the SMTP server...
Everything uses HTTP-DAV. If your Exchange server is configured to support
Outlook Web Access (OWA), Entourage will work without any additional
changes! (and your user may access their e-mail from home without having to
VPN in if your OWA is available externally)

As for Entourage X, most likely your user has improper DNS settings. Ask
them to do a "host smtp.mydomain.com" from Terminal.app and make sure the IP
address is resolving properly.
