Sometimes "Reply" only includes some of the message text

Once in awhile, the Reply button does not include all of the text from
the message I am replying to. It includes some of the text and some of
the previous headers (if there is a reply chain). And usually, the
text spacing is all goofed up as well. The Forward button does the
same thing.

I have an email message in my inbox right now. It is a reply to an
email I sent. My original email message was:

-----------------------
Dear Sally,

What time is the meeting on Friday?

See you there.

Thanks,

Joe
-----------------------

The reply looks like this:

--------------------------
Dear Joe,

The meeting is at 4:00.

I'll be about 10 mionutes late.

Sally

except for the "wrote:".

My original message is copiesd at the bottom with a heavy blue line
down the left edge.

If I click on either Reply of Forward, I see this:

1. 2 blank lines.
2. The header lines.
3. 4 blank lines. Two are "Normal", one is "emailstyle15" and one is
"emailstyle17".
4. The text of my original message but without the "Dear Sally". This
is all in the emailstyle17 style which is like quadruple spacing.
5. Nothing from Sally's reply to me.

Can anyone explain to me what is going on here and how to fix it?

This seems to happen just for certain senders -- maybe one in 50.

Thanks

Can no one offer any help for this problem?

What's the format of the messages? Any of the correspondants using an
unusual mail client -- something really old, perhaps, or a Mac client with
different encoding:?
