Songs won't play for more than one slide

I'm having problems with a song not playing for more than one slide. I have gone to effect options and put that I want the song to play for say 10 slides but when I start the presentation it will only play on the first slide and then stop and won't go on to the other slides. I have 9 songs in all and it won't work right for any of them. PLEASE HELP IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!!!
