Sorting the Inbox

We are running Entourage with OS 9.1 on G3 computers. I have 2 users who
cannot sort their inboxes by anything but the date. If they try to sort by
subject or by sender it changes the order of the messages, but does not sort
into groups as it should.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by groups, but you can select other View options.
Go to menu bar ->View->Columns and select the criteria you wish to sort by.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't terribly clear. In the inbox, when you click on the
column header, it should sort the messages using that column. For example
if you click on the "Received" header, it should sort all messages in either
ascending or descending order as to when you received them.

So, if you click on the "From" header it should sort alphabetically in
either ascending or descending order.

In our case it does not.

This is a stumper then. I don't remember this ever being reported.

Have you updated Office 2001?

The version for Entourage should be 9.0.2 (4011). If it is any lower,
download all of the latest Office updates in the order below (applied in
this order).
€ Office 2001 Service Release 1
€ Word 2001 Macro Security Update
€ Excel/PowerPoint 2001 Macro Security Update
€ Entourage 2001 Hotmail Update (necessary even if you don't use
Hotmail)
€ Office 2001 SSL Security Update

I'm not sure if a rebuild would help, but you could try that. Hold Option
key down when starting. Try Typical rebuild first.

Thank you - I had run all of the updates before we even used the program.
The rebuild seems to solve the problem.

Great!

You can throw away the "old" files that were created during the rebuild.

Old files are named:
Entourage X: "Old Database Cache" and "Old Database"

Entourage 2001: "Old Database Cache", "Old Database", and "Old Messages." In
addition, Database (Rebuild) Cache is retained.

Tip: Create a Task to remind you to duplicate your identity folder on a
regular basis. This way if your database is corrupt and you cannot rebuild
you will have a backup copy.
