Tried to link to a MIDI file and file and it didn't play. Linked to wma file
and the it played. Any suggestions about midi file.

Does the midi file play music on your computer (or any midi file for that
matter) ok ?

try and play it without powerpoint - to test if your computer will play midi
files.
