SP1: Can't set Project Start date to anything but 2005

In SP1 (build 11.1.2004.1707.15) I cannot seem to set the Start Date to
anything before January 1, 2005. Go to Project->Project Information and try
setting the start date to say November 15, 2004. Close the dialog box. Reopen
it. The year will be 2005, not 2004. If you actually change the system's date
(not a friendly thing to do) to anytime in the year 2004 it will do it. But
when you change the system date back to 2005, and open up the Project
Information box, the year will once again be 2005.

Anyone else see this? Workaround?

Thanks
Jack

I can't duplicate your problem. Are you closing the Project Information
dialog box by clicking "ok" ?

Hi Jack,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

If you have set a fiscal year to other than Jan, please see FAQ Item: 1.
Strange Dates in Gantt? Check the Fiscal Year. FAQs, companion products and
other useful Project information can be seen at this web address:

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Oh yes. I've (and other people) have tried a bunch of different scenarios. We
do things "cleanly" (press OK, etc.). We try doing things without saving,
etc. No effect. This is like the terminator. It cannot be stopped. It wants
it to be 2005. I using calendar years, not fiscal. Very basic stuff. I'm
actually gotten it down to the simple case of opening up a new project file
(after just starting Project) and trying to set the date. Still happens.

Just a long shot. but go to tools menu / options/ view tab and set the date
format to one which includes the year.
See if that helps. The print dialog box has a bug which exhibits the same
behavior that you are seeing and this works around it.

Where exactly are you entering the Project Start date??? I have exactly the
same build etc and when I open a new file and set the Project Start date in
the Project, Project Information page to something like 15 Nov 2004, that's
where it stays. I know it's a long shot, but you're not by any chance
thinking the vertical dotted line in the Gantt chart is marking the start
date and that's what your talking about not changing, are you? If so,
that's the current date indicator, not the project start indicator.

Good catch! - since I never use a date format that doesn't include the year
(can't image why anyone would) I've never seen that issue.
