SP2 does not detect Office

E

Eric N. Darby

So I'm trying to install SP2 on some users desktops and I get an error
message saying it cannot find a compatible version. Our user are on the
last 11.1 release of the product.

Any ideas?

Hi Eric,

Where is Office located on these machines (boot drive, another partition,
netboot, etc)?

Are you doing this via the download or via Auto Update?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Re: SP2 does not detect OfficeIts located on the local hard drive. I've tried both Auto Update and Direct launch.

These machines are managed by an XServe. Could it be something blocked in preferences?

If you go to the machine locally and try to apply the patch, does it work?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Re: SP2 does not detect OfficeNo it doesn't. I think it is a bad machine. Other machines have been successful.

This has happened on all two PCs and a laptop as well as friends.

I have a two private licensed versions and now tried on the CIOs laptop VIA
Windows update. The update failed there and I am not going to try to
download the full file.

So far with me and friends on home PCs the tally is that all failed first
time. Downloaded using Office Update" on three. All three failed.

Downloaded the full version on all 3 as recommended.

The home laptop ended up installing ok.

Both Desktops seem to have installed the service pack if you go to the
application and use "About" function it says SP2, but the installation failed
with the "cannot find a compatible version"

When going back to the office update utility it still shows I need to
upgrade to SP2 whcih again fails. I have no clue if my installations are
safe or not.

Now in dealing with the CIOs laptop I am going leave the old version until I
get some answers. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks
Dennis

Are you referring to the SP2 update for Mac Office or Windows Office? Your
post refers to PC¹s and Windows update.
