empty and the exchange server calendar has all of my information how do
i reconcile the two and once i get the local calendar updated can i
eliminate the exchange server one (i only need email from the exchange

If you are truly not using the Exchange Calendar, including not receiving
invitations on that mail account, you should be able to move all the events
from your Exchange Calendar to your local calendar by way of the Calendar
View's All Events listing (select them all and choose Event/Move and choose
the local calendar). At that point, you can elect not to use the Calendar,
but as it is a special Exchange folder, it cannot be deleted.

I have the opposite problem. I don't have a use for a local calendar.
Can I somehow get rid or disable the local calendar?

What's to "disable"? Just don't use it. As long as your Exchange account is
you default email account, all invitations, synching, etc. will use the
Exchange calendar automatically. If you still have any events in the local
calendar you can move them to the Exchange calendar, either manually, or
like this (better):

In Calendar area, go to File->New->Custom View.

Name it "Local Calendar".

Set (or leave) Item types as: ˆ Calendar Events [only].

Set Location popup to: Calendar (On My Computer).

Set Criteria to: <Match if ANY criteria are met>
Category Is None
Category Is not None

Click OK. Go to the view. Wait for the view to finish collating.

Now you have a list of all local events. Select All, or command-click to
select just the events you want to move or copy to Exchange calendar. Go to
Event menu->Move (or ->Copy) ->Choose Calendar, to Move (or Copy) them to
the Calendar in your Exchange Account. You can then select and delete any
remaining events if you wish.
