SP3 clearing previous patches

Possibly a stupid question but, when installing SP3 for Office does this automatically contain every patch released for Office programs to the date of the release

I seem to have numerous old 'patches' and 'updates' in my 'installed programs folder' - are these now all surplus and can they be safely removed

SP3 contains all previous patches - I don't know if it will delete them from
your system if they were previously installed...
