SPAM emails that cannot be deleted

D

Dale

I am receiving spam emails with attachments. When I try to delete the
email, Entourage closes. I dragged them to the Deleted Emails file
successfully, but when I try to delete them there, Entourage closes.
How can I get rid of these? I, of course, did NOT open the attachments.
But I want them gone.

Dale,

If you tried the following?

1. Make certain that at least one non-spam message is already in the
Deleted Items folder.
2. Drag one (or more) undeletable spam message(s) to the Deleted Items
folder.
3. Add a non-spam message to the Deleted Items folder.
4. Click and choose the first non-spam message.
5. Press & hold the shift key while clicking and choosing the last
non-spam message. Now the spam message(s) as well as the two non-spam
messages will be chosen.
6. Delete the chosen messages.

I'm not certain it will work for your problem, but I've had success
deleting troublesome messages using this method.

It's a lot simpler just to turn Preview Pane off, in View menu. (Preview
Pane/None). Then you can go into the folder, select it and Delete. no
problem, no freeze. The reason why the freeze happens is that the message is
corrupt (or there's a bug), and that selecting it with Preview Pane ON tries
to render the message, hitting the freeze. (This will happen in step 2 of
your steps, by the way.) With Preview Pane OFF, nothing tries to render, no
problem.

For messages in the Deleted Items folder itself, you can just Empty Deleted
Items from Tools/Run Schedule, or right-click (control-click) on the folder
and choose 'Empty Deleted Items'.

For messages in an IMAP account's Deleted Items Folder, right-click
(control-click) on the IMAP Account's icon and choose 'Empty Deleted Items'.
