Spam Sieve and Entourage

Firstly, apologies, this might be more a Spam Sieve question than an
Entourage question...

I have recently purchased Spam Sieve and am using it with Entourage.

On the whole it works really well in identifying spam, but the "Move if
Spam" script doesn¹t appear to do anything different to the "Mark is Spam"
script.

I have two main accounts used via Entourage: a POP acocunt and a Hotmail
account. In both cases I assumed that making a top-level folder called Spam
would be sufficient to have Spam Siece automatically move spam for me.

In the POP account I currently have the Spam folder under "On My Computer"
rather than "Inbox". Neither seems to work.

In the Hotmail account, Spam is a top-level folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm forwarding this reply from a Spam Sieve user.

"First, have you read the Spamsieve Documentation? I think there is some
setup you may need to do, including possible editing the script to set some
of the properties for actions you want, such as "tryToMoveIMAPMessages",
which is set "false" by default. (I just checked, and the documentation
clearly states that there are problems with moving IMAP messages.)

I'm using the scripts and they work fine for my POP accounts right out of
the box. I have my Spam folder in "On My Computer" also. It must be called
"Spam". You might try just deleting the spam folder entirely; the script
will create one if it does not exist. Same with the "Junk" category. But,
check the documentation, especially regarding the IMAP accounts."

As suggested, I deleted the Spam folder in "On My Computer" and created a
new one and now things seem to work fine (?). So my POP accounts are all
good...

Is Hotmail considered an IMAP account type? I didn¹t realise...in Entourage
its treated as a whole separate genre...

I will try applying IMAP principles to Hotmail and see how I go.

Thanks

I read your posts with interest. I'm having exactly the same problem as
Jason with Spam Sieve in Entourage - that is, (POP mail) spam messages are
marked but not moved, even though I've set up the Move If Spam script. My
Spam folder is situated 'On My Computer' , the default location Spam Sieve
places it. Please note, I'm not talking about IMAP messages.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm now drowning in hundreds of
spam messages per day!

By the way, is hotmail considered POP or IMAP anyway?

Thanks, T

I am having no problem with SpamSieve moving spam. I set
SpamFolderContainerName to Inbox (in both Add Spam and Move if Spam scripts)
so that the Spam folder in a subfolder of the Inbox. Otherwise, I made no
other mods to the supplied scripts. I am presuming you have placed the
scripts in the user/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Entourage Script Menu
Items folder and created a rule to execute the Move if Spam script. Also
make sure no other rule executes before that script that would keep the
e-mail from reaching the SpamSieve script. The first rule that matches the
e-mail conditions, executes on that e-mail and that's it!
