Spam using names from my address book

I have noticed that some of the spam I get comes from names that I have
in my address book. It is not recent contacts but ones that I have sent
email to in the past. And it is all very random.

Could someone have access to my computer? I'm on a network with a
permanent open pipe to the internet. We do have a fire wall but some of
my colleagues are alos eexperienceing this as well.

Any one expereinced this? Did you manage to stop it?

That's very common......
Many viruses use the calendar of the infected computer and send e-mails
to a list of users there, pretending to be one of the contacts on the
list. The idea is that people might know each other and be a lot less
careful and open the attachments (viruses) sent with the e-mail.

My bet is that someone you know and who also knows the "sender" of the
e-mail has a virus on his PC (I haven't yet seen any virus that could do
that on Mac).
His computer is sending e-mail to the entire address book pretending to
be people on the list of contacts.
