SpamSieve and IMAP

new to IMAP accounts. It looks like SpamSieve sort of works with IMAP,
but it doesn't automatically move the junk emails into the Junk Email
folder.

Do you current IMAP/SpamSieve users just first run the Train Spam
script, and then manually delete your spam in your IMAP Inboxes? Just
curious if that's the right/best practice.

See this page for help using SpamSieve with Entourage. The author is also
very friendly and has a web site where he offers help. Links to contact the
author and visit web site can be found at the bottom of the page:

Thanks, Diane. From the links, it looks like IMAP emails can't be
moved via scripting, at least the SpamSieve scripts. I think one needs
to manually move spam emails into the Junk Email folder.

That doesn't sound right. No one has asked about this before on the list and
I would expect to hear about it if it were a problem.

What happens when you use the Entourage Junk Mail Filter?

I posted these questions (below in parentheses) on the SpamSieve site,
and the developer responded:

"Even when I try to manually move my Junk email to the Junk folder (by
dragging), it just copies them, leaving the original in the IMAP
Inbox."

Entourage will copy the message by default, but it will move it if you
hold down the Command key.

"My guess is that the best way to deal with any Spam emails that get
through to the IMAP Inboxes is:
1. Run the Train Spam script (which will mark it and learn it as spam)
2. Delete the spam.
Is this the recommended process for IMAP accounts?"

Yes, that's what I recommend (unless, for some reason, you want to
save the spam).

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add this to the FAQs.

SpamSieve is an excellent product and, as always, the author is very
responsive to customer inquiries.

Is your spam folder located in the "On my computer" section??
I use only one IMAP account in Entourage. I created a Junk folder in the
IMAP account and set the script to move the e-mails there. This works
great for me, but I suspect that if you ask Entourage to move the
e-mails in a folder outside of the IMAP server, it simply copies them
there instead (and depending on what commands the server supports, the
original ones might not get deleted).

Very often, these deletions issues are caused by the server. Some of my
IMAP accounts for instance fail to follow "flags". I can't empty the
trsh on the account. E-mails are marked for deletion, ut never actually
deleted. I have to login through webmail to empty the trsh :-(
