spell checking: false negative for "Subject-verb agreement"

this means that it complains that its attendant verb, "is", has the wrong
number.

am i wrong to consider it a verb, and the noun for "is" to be "object"?

No, you're not wrong, and it is rather odd for Word even to consider
"progresses" a noun, but I suspect that this is caused by your use of
"compile" as a noun, which confuses Word, which is treating it as a verb
(though it's hard to see what it would think the subject of "compile" is).

Your sentence is perfectly grammatical.

Grammar checkers are even more useless than spell checkers.

(However, a careful stylist might not use "compile" as a noun!)

I wasn't getting an error on that sentence with English(U.S.)
