Hi
I am working on a database of Names & addresses, where the system
attempts to match details from newly imput data - i.e.invoices, order
forms etc, with that already on the database.
Trouble is, people insist on spelling things differently. So "and" may
become "&", "Ltd" may become "Limited", "CE" may become "Church of
England", "St Mark's" becomes "St Marks", etcetera, etcetera.
What I crave is the kind of spell checking ability that operates in
Microsoft Word, or even better, Google. How do they do that?
When I put a typo into the google search box, 9 times out of 10 it
responds with "Did you mean so-and-so ...".
What I thought might work is to standardise certain things as they
come in on the input. i.e Limited is always put as Ltd.
Rd is always Road. The 's is much more complicated, but if I ensure
the data in our database is grammatically correct, that should be
enough.
Any ideas?
