Spotlight and Entourage 2004?

I know Spotlight will work with Office 2004 files. But does anyone know if
it will work with Entourage? It would be nice, though I have a feeling it
won't be able to search the Entourage database.

TIA.

I'm told that Google Desktop (and others of that ilk) work with Outlook
2000 and later. This would indicate that it's possible to make such
tools work with email even without the help of the developer.

"Spotlight will index and search Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, but
unfortunately it will not work with Microsoft's email and information
manager, Entourage.

"It won't index Entourage and that's simply due to the way that Spotlight
was made versus Entourage," said [Scott] Erickson [of Microsoft]. "Entourage
saves everything in a database format and we are working with Apple to see
how Spotlight can index the database."

Thanks Mickey. That's exactly what I thought, actually. Now I wonder how
long before the can figure out how to index the DB. May be moving back to
Mail again.

Hi, I have a question- since Spotlight won‚t read the DB, what about
if I import my mailboxes into Mail? then I can search w/ spotlight.
The real Q is once I have done an import, can I do other imports
periodically which will update instead of do a large import of all of
the mailboxes again? Then at least I‚d have the messages in Mail for
search, but could still use Entourage for the things I like. Both
would be in sync. Or is there a cool program that could sync the
mailboxes of both and update?

This is what I'm doing, and it works pretty well (although time consuming).

Every Monday, I'm going into Mail.app and importing everything from
Entourage, and then deleting the contents of the last import (due to the
fact that each import creates a new import folder)

I agree, tho, a well-crafted AppleScript would be a gift from heaven if it
copied over emails automatically.

I think I have an easier alternative. If it's a POP account, simply set
Apple Mail to not delete messages from the POP server when received.
That way, you can periodically launch Mail and simply click on Get
Mail. As long as Entourage is set to not immediately delete messages as
they are received, your last 10 - 15 days of messages are still there
for Mail to pull down.
