Spotlight Option missing from General preferences

Help! I use Spotlight extensively on my Entourage mail database.

The problem: I had to reinstall MAC OS X from the original discs the
other day - I selected the option to retain my data, programs etc. All
appeared to be well until I noticed Spotlight was no longer giving me
results from Entourage. went to the Preferences and the button under
General to use Spotlight is now completely missing.

I am running 11.3.3 so it should be there. MS updates will not install
on top of the current installation and I do not want to lose my data
etc.

Can anyone throw some light on how to fix this please?

Thanks

While you may have been running 11.3.3 prior to your re-installation,
you may not have completed all the updates. Spotlight was introduced
around version 11.2.4 or 11.2.5 if I remember correctly.

In Entourage verify you are indeed running 11.3.3 by checking its
version number under the Entourage --> About Entourage menu. If not,
then run the Microsoft AutoUpdate tool found under the Help --> Check
For Updates menu.

Hope this helps! bill

I just did a re-install myself and had the exact same problem even though I
had applied all updates. I ran the 11.3.3 (it's a combo updater) then 11.3.4
update and Spotlight was back.

Seems we are seeing more problems these days with not only Microsoft
applications but Apple updates as well not installing completely.

I use the Apple Combo updaters rather than Software Update for the big
installs of Apple update releases.
