Is there any way to search Entourage messages using spotlight? Has anyone
managed to create a plug-in for this yet?

Not at the moment (at least, not within entourage - messages saved out to
disk can be searched with spotlight).

However, I have seen reports that it is being 'looked at'

I'm totally hoping this does get fixed. The lack of Spotlight
functionality is the one think keeping me from using Entourage.

I took another serious look at Mail again to make use of Spotlight. But
Entourage does so much more. Plus, I can no longer read mail horizontally!
Email views have been like this since the first clients came out. Why the
inertia to adding a vertical panel in other clients? Seems so off.

Finally, are Mail views basically the same in function as "smart folders"?

"TEXT" to get them indexed in spotlight. I save messages out as .msg files,
and they get indexed OK

Custom views? Yes, they work in pretty much the same way.

I'll save them as .msg files if that is what works best.

Why? Can't you create folders and subfolders appropriately named and
put your items there? What is Spotlight the solution for?

Because its a pain to maintain. What is revolutionary about spotlight is
that it does not matter where anything is located; what matters is what the
document contains. It means that you cannot lose anything (or you have to
try hard to lose anything). I'm using Entourage in spite of its lack of
spotlight support, but it will be a much better application when it arrives.
In general, better integration with Tiger is warranted; Entourage is
showing its age.
