So I ran the Office Updater and have the most current version, but I
can't get spotlight working. When I go to Entourge>Preferences>General
Preferences 'Spotlight' isn't one of the listed options. What am I
doing wrong?

Check that this file is in place:

/Library/Spotlight/Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter/

If not, then you need to re-run the updater.

If it is, you should be seeing the 'Spotlight' section in Entourage's
preferences. Try restarting the machine.

Barry,
I have Microsoft Office.mdimporter, but not Microsoft
Entourage.mdimporter. Are they the same thing? If not which update
should I re-run?

thanks,
Ian

No, they are not the same - the first allows spotlight to index word &excel
files, the latter to index the mail/contacts database.

It was the 11.2.4 update that dded spotlight support, so that is the one you
would need to re-run. However, if you have already applied the 11.2.5/11.2.6
updates, I doubt that 11.2.4 would run again, so it may be best to use the
'remove office' utility, re-install from CD and then apply the latest
updates again.

Alternatively, find the disk where you first installed office before
dragging it to its current location and manually drag in the mdimporter file
from there.

Yes, you are looking in the right place - the individual installer has
probably been 'rolled up' into the combo updater for 11.2.6

Your best bet (i.e. Safest, most certain) would be to use the 'remove
office' tool, re-install and apply the updater. This will not affect your
data, which will survive the transition untouched. This is what I would do
in your place.

There's no Combo for 11.2.6. You need to install 11.2.5 (which is a Combo),
then 11.2.6.

11.2.5, then 11.2.6, You don't have to download from that site, though you
can.

Instead, once you have Removed Office, and then EMPTIED THE TRASH, and then
reinstalled Office 2004, go to Help/Check for Updates in Entourage or any
Office app. That will do the download and installation (asking you to quit
Entourage before the install). First 11.2.5, then 11.2.6. (11.2.6 is just
two files, and doesn't update the actual applications, just other import
files access by some of the Office apps).

Should I use AppZaper to remove all the compoenents? Or just drag and
drop it into the trash?

!!! Use "Remove Office" application that you find in /Applications/Microsoft
Office 2004/Additional Tools/.

It's the only thing that works.

I had the same problem with the Spotlight option not being available. I
downloaded the 11.2.5 update, ran it, and then downloaded/ran the 11.2.6
updates, and that fixed the problem. This worked without removing Office
2004.

One "trick" that I used that may or may not have helped was that I did a
second installation of Office 2004 on a external USB hard drive before
running the updates. I didn't copy the missing file from the USB drive
though, the file was installed when I ran the 11.2.5 update, so this
installation may have been unnecessary.

The end result is a working Spotlight option in the Entourage preferences
menu.
