Spybot

Has begun to crash my system - it reads away and reaches a point where it
seemingly tries to connect via my telephone (the old screech, screech I
remember from dialup days) and then the system closes down.

I run daily Spybot (1.4) 2006-3-10 and Adaware SE - fully updated without
any problems until recently. Also run AVG Free Edition scan each morning.

Any ideas.

This is totally off topic in this group...but
maybe the following will help:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/proxy.html

Also...try uninstalling/reinstalling Spybot.

And try Spybot Support:

Try HiJackThis <http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html>.
It's possible you have installed a program that automatically dials out.
Be careful runing this program or spybot as you can too aggressively
remove *.dll & other registry entries that are beneficial. Next, try a
hardware group like microsoft.public.hardware
