Actually a cid source in html view in an e-mail
identifies the location of an included sound or image file.
Since the e-mail in your inbox is not an individual
file, but is a part of the inbox.dbx file, the src = cid
identifies the location of, is a pointer to, the sound file
within the dbx file. It does not necessarily indicate a virus.
( although it could be one )

Can the sound be extracted out of the email and used as a
background sound? If so because it came in a email that
has been widely distributed, can I assume it is legal to
use it?

If the sound is embedded in the e-mail and uses src=cid no, as it's in
binary format and isn't recognized as an individual file and there's no
option to right click and save like there is with an image.

If the sound is brought in using an external link, you can see the link
using by opening Properties for the e-mail and then capturing the sound via
the link.

The problems already solved. src="cid" means the file is embedded in the
email in binary format.

Do This,

In OE, right click the email. Hit Properties, then Details. Click on message
source. Copy everything there. then post it here in a reply.
