Starband and POP mail

I recently changed isp to StarBand (the internet by satellite provider)
and now I'm unable to get my pop mail through Entourage. The same
settings work fine in Apple Mail. Has anyone else had a problem with
Entourage and StarBand and fixed it? Thanks!

Is this starband mail or just some accounts you already have?

It may include a firewall as part of the package and it could be limiting a
port that you were using. Were you using default ports (110 and 25 I
think).

Your incoming mail ought to be in the form "mail.domain.com" and outgoing
ought to be either "mail.domain.com" or "smtp.domain.com" depending. Or
whatever starband or your ISP provide as domain information.

Starband has a lot of latency issues which means it takes a longer time for
signals to bounce back and forth. Perhaps it is taking long enough to time
out on you or keep trying and maybe a network hassle will iron out.

Good luck and maybe these off the cuff thoughts will help you.

Mark

Thanks Mark for your help. I think it is an Entourage issue and not a
Starband problem since Apple Mail works just fine. Tried lots of
different settings but nothing seems to work, so I'm stumped. Any off
the wall ideas out there?... I'm willing to try just about anything at
this point.
BTW the error message I get from from Entourage is 111 "An operation on
the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may
be too much net traffic."

Found the answer... Experimenting with different settings, I removed all
check marks for Proxy Server and now Entourage works fine...

3 things u might want to try
1. in the account setup for this account, click on Options and check "Allow
Online access...". The account will appear toward the bottom of your folder
list. Click on that.

2. check the smtp authentication and ensure it's the same for the account
you are trying to receive mail from. This is found in Tools, then Accounts.
Click on the account you want to edit and click the Edit button. Then in the
Sending mail section, click on the button below it that says click here for
advanced sending options. Then ensure the smtp authentication is correctly
set.

3. have u tried unplugging the adsl router then plugging it back in again?
This may cure the issue when the IP address is reset and the cache is
cleared on restart of the mac.

Hope this helps, let me know how u get on...
