status bar says 1845 items, 80 unread

client-fresh office 2000 install (updated to SP3)on fresh
win98 se install (with current updates)

server-win2k exchange 5.5, non-AD

when i open outlook, delivery is to users 'MAILBOX -
UserName', on the server. inbox icon on the outlook bar,
states 81 new messages. status bar(on the bottom) states
1846 items and 81 unread.

yet there is NADA in the inbox.

Ive changed the VIEW>CURRENT VIEW> 'tried all options'
and still nada.

*side note - when i choose "BY SENDER" i get an "OUTLOOK
CANNOT DISPLAY THIS VIEW" message.

Ive also removed all (1) rules, and still nada.

Ive setup offline folders, and inbox displays properly
while offline.

OWA shows all emails correctly too.

I have deleted and recreated profiles and still no change.

Any ideas on other things to check?
