Still having problems using FP2003

Dang I wish I really hadn't upgraded to FP 2003 at least
with my old FP 2000 I could get a darn hit counter to
work properly.

I was asked to take over this site and simply add a hit
counter, however this is about the busiest mess I have
seen in a long time. I added the hit counter but it will
not advance, I check to make sure everything was ok on
the server side and it seems the hit counter advances in
the folder marked private ( appears all the webbots are
stored here?) I am about ready to un-install FP2003 and
see if I can find my old FP 2000 program just to get this
problem solved once and for all.

The hit counter is trying to call the image file from your F:\ drive which is an indication you had
the page open but not the web and *then* the page when you installed the hit counter.

Open the live site
Remove the hit counter.
Save the page.
Reinstall the hit counter.
Save the page.

Or open your local web and then the page and do the same as above and republish.

Steve:

Why is it we see so many problems in the FP newsgroups because people don't
open a web instead of just a page?

Oh, it must be because the help files are broken? ;-)

Tom,
I think it's because people believe they are saving time by browsing to the web files using Windows
Explorer and then selecting a file and right clicking and choosing Edit or Open with.... FrontPage.
To be honest I don't think either of the above should be options on the Windows Explorer right click
Context menu, because people don't realize that they are *not* opening the web.

just my humble opinion.
