FINALLY! Someone has come up with the answer for the complete
incompatibility of Entourage and the new Intel Macs! The problem of
constant nonstop background churning of the hard disk!

Thank God that the readers of MacWorld can provide an answer that
Microsoft themselves cannot provide to their own customers.

It's good that this article is getting some coverage, and more people are
finding this solution, but if you search the archives you will find that
this solution has been proposed on this newsgroup almost from the first day
that Office 2004 was released! MacWorld are just catching up with us :)

We should also note that this problem is not Intel specific. To my
knowledge (someone correct me if I'm wrong) no compatibility issues
exist between Intel Macs and Entourage. Sure, Entourage may be slower
because of the differences in processor but this isn't unexpected. It's
certainly not completely incompatible.

While I'm not crazy about turning off the background integrity check for
home use this may actually be a good idea for those in Exchange Server
environments where email is already stored on the server. I wouldn't
think the local database needs to be constantly checked as long as
original messages exist elsewhere. The same would probably apply to
folks who only use IMAP accounts as well. (Just a thought, no data to
indicate either way.)

I've never noticed this but I turned it off just to see if it makes
any difference.
