Stop hourglass from interupting

The hourglass keeps popping up every 3-5 seconds as I work in any program in
the Office suite. Obviously, this disrupts my work. The save function is set
for 5 minutes. Why is this happening? I have tried to detect/repair but
keep getting error message that doesn't help. Any suggestions?
