Stop Word from auto-resizing large images

Eric Lanteigne

Is there a way to stop Word 2002 from auto-resizing large
images files? We need them at 100% all the time and
having to always right-click and Image Format and reset
it to 100% is less efficient for us. We don't care if the
picture goes out of the page since we're using a
HTML/SCORM converter.

Thanks,

Hi Erik,

You didn't mention the sizing of the pictures
(original vs inserted) that's occuring
or the method you're using to insert them.

Word's design limits any inserted graphic or object
to what fits on one page (maximum page size is 22" x 22"
via File=>Page Setup).

If the graphic type is not in a format that stores
Pixels per inch within the graphic then Word will likely
use the PPI setting in
Tools=>Options=>General=>Web Options=>/Pictures\ to
size the picture if it would otherwise fit on a single
page.

If you're working with them for a web page then some things
can be a bit different.

Here's an exemple :

Image size : 709 x 316
Resolution : 96 ppp
File type : .gif
Original ratio : 100%
Word ratio : 85% (choosen by Word)

We are inserting them by the Insertion menu -> Insert ->
Image from file.

Can I just turn them off or modify something to tell Word
to stop resizing images?

Thanks,
Eric Lanteigne

Hi Eric,

GIF files can't store a PPI resolution in the file.
Be sure that you've set 96 as the value in
Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options]=>/Pictures\
if you're using GIF files. JPEGs can, but don't
require that a PPI value be stored in the file.

The auto sizing can also be affected by the page size
and margin settings when you're using Insert=>Picture=>From File.
