Strange Network Behavior

I have a small windows server 2000 based network with 6 clients (XP and 2000
PCs w/ MS office 2000). A couple of weeks ago we had a problem with winsock
corruption. Once resolved, any local or network based docs take 10 -30
seconds to open. The odd part is, if a PC is physically disconnected from the
network, a local doc will open nearly instantly. But if reconnected, the same
doc will take the usual 10 - 30 seconds to open. I've already rebuilt DHCP on
the server just in case and disabled the antivirus, but the problem
persists. No other hardware or software changes have occured. This issue
happens with any microsoft files. Any suggestions?
