Strangeness in Spell Checker

First, my apologies for misposting the message. I was looking for a
group for Word in general, but this is the best I could find. My
question is this:

Something has happened to my Word 97 spell checker. It still works, and
correctly finds spelling errors, but it no longer suggests the correct
spelling. I suppose it's an option/preferences setting somewhere. But
where?

Anybody know the fix? Thanks.

In Tools | Options, Spelling & Grammar tab, make sure that the option to suggest corrections is selected. (I haven't been using Word 97 for quite some time, but I'm assuming the option is present even in that version.)
