Strategy for use of Outlook and Entourage

My home computer is a G4 (soon to be Intel iMac) with Entourage for
mail. I have acquired a Dell Latitude with XP Pro as a road machine and
could use some suggestions on how to handle mail from the road.

The way I have the Dell setup is I get my DSL mail via the lame Yahoo
Web Mail. This is one step above blowing off mail. The Dell has
Outlook.

Should I just up Outlook on the Dell and read/trash mail from the road
and not worry about it being saved on the home machine.?

Can a saved Entourage message be read by a PC?

Can I export my Entourage address book and import it to Outlook?

I don't think Outlook supports news so I will have to find a PC news
reader application.

Yes, I should have ordered one of the new MacBooks but they are three
times the cost of the Dell road machine that will sit most of the time
not being used

Message for Paul-B:

I went to the FAQ and you scrips page and missed how to export contacts
from Entourage 2004 to XP Pro Outlook. I tried the Entourage Export to
a tab something text file and Outlook will accept just about any other
format.

I am just using the Dell notebook for a few months while I save up for a
new MacBook. Surely there is some way to get my contacts to the PC

You could set up the account in Outlook so that messages are kept on the
server after they're downloaded. That way, you'll be able to access them at
home in Entourage.

No, sorry.

Looks like I am SOL for a few months while I have to use the Dell D-600
Latitude on the road. I can't even get my contacts list to export from
Ent to Outlook. Something tells me all they share in common is the same
logo.

I may try to Export my contacts from Entourage 2004 and import them to
Excel and I should then at least be able to look up and copy an address.
The exported .txt file is very hard to read.

Can you not import a text-delimited file into Outlook? I've never used
Outlook, but it would be very surprising if that was not possible.

Also, while Outlook cannot read Entourage email messages, Outlook Express
can, since both OE and Entourage store emails in the same file format
(.eml). So you could theoretically drag your Entourage messages into a
folder on your desktop, transfer that folder to your Windows notebook and
drag the messages into Outlook Express. Vice-versa will also work, which
might be useful when you no longer have to use your Dell notebook. Outlook
can import Outlook Express email messages, and I think Outlook Express can
also import Outlook messages, so you could share email messages between
Outlook and Entourage by using Outlook Express as an intermediary. Hope this
is useful.

Sorry, that should be "a tab-delimited text file".

Thanks for the tip on Outlook Express. I may have to play around with
it sometime. I gave up getting Outlook to import anything exported from
Entourage. Opened the Entourage exported Contacts (tab-delimited) file
with Excel and did some format changes. I now have a good look up file
that I can use to find and select an address while on the Dell laptop.
