Stubborn and opaque error message

B

Bill Weylock

Every time Entourage 2004 does a Send/Receive, I get an error alert that
says nothing but:

³Invalid message number. ... The message could not be moved. ... Error:
-16999.²

No clue as to what message is causing the problem. No apparent log entry
anywhere.

Can you fix me?

No. That error message is not from Entourage, it's from the server.
Entourage is just passing along the error message. You could try asking your
ISP.

Wonder which server, which account?

No additional text to the thing available anywhere?

Hmmm/ Usually Entourage will yell you which account in the large square
error message that comes up. If you have a yellow warning triangle in bottom
right of the main window, you can click it and double-click any item -
including that one - in the Error Log window that comes up to get the full
error message again. If you don't have an error log for this error, perhaps
it's not a server error after all.

Why don't you just go to Tools/Send & Receive/[pick an account] to receive
from each account, one at a time. If this really does happen "every time
Entourage 2004 does a Send/Receive", you'll find out immediately which
account is the problem one.

Paul -

You¹re right of course that server problems usually cite an account.

This message alert, though, does not. I gave you all of the text they
provided me.

I have two domains and 20 mailboxes. That makes isolating a rogue message
very difficult.

The error also suggests that it is not a message that will be easy to
delete.

Sigh.
